About the Department

The Department of Traffic Engineering was formed by merging of:

- TRANSPORTATION PLANNING DIVISION;
- TRAFFIC CONTROL AND MANAGEMENT DIVISION;
- THEORY OF TRAFFIC FLOW, CAPACITY, EVAULATION DIVISION
- ROADS DIVISION

Transport engineering and traffic engineering
  According to the modern definitions, Transport Engineering deals with the application of technical and scientific principles in planning, functional design, management and organization of potentials of any mode of transport with the goal to provide safe, fast, efficient, comfortable, acceptable, cost-effective and environmentally friendly transport. 

Traffic engineering may be defined as a phase in engineering which deals with application of technical and scientific principles with the goal to enable efficient, environmentally acceptable, economically feasible and safe movement of people and goods across street and road network.

Why is traffic engineering specifically separated and studied?
  Because between 60 % and 80% of all movement of people and goods is performed on the street and road network
